Daptomycin is a cyclic lipopeptide antibiotic with a unique structure extracted from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces (S. roseosporus).
It hinders the biosynthesis of bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan by disturbing amino acid transport in the cell membrane. By altering cytoplasmic membrane properties, it disrupts bacterial membrane function in multiple ways to rapidly kill Gram-positive bacteria.
It should be kept sealed in a dry place and stored in a freezer under -20°C.
